On the open Atlantic
Salt, fog, and wind: the Barrington combination
Barrington Bay, Cape Sable Island, and the harbours down through Woods Harbour and Shag Harbour face the open Atlantic with nothing in the way. Fog is constant in summer, salt spray rides every south wind, and the fishing sheds, wharves, and houses along the water wear it all. Salt film on siding holds moisture, and moisture feeds algae and mildew, which is why a vinyl wall on the Island can green up in a season.
Pressure alone doesn't fix salt-fed growth. It breaks the top off and the roots stay. A soft wash kills the algae and mildew, and a proper rinse takes the salt film with it. That's the method we use on every house down here. New to the term? Read what soft washing is.
Communities we cover around Barrington & Cape Sable Island
Shelburne town, Sandy Point, and Lockeport have their own page. Pubnico and Argyle are on the Yarmouth County page.
What we see in Barrington and on the Island
Waterfront homes and fishing properties. A lot of houses down here sit within sight of the boat, with a shed, a bait shed, or a gear building beside them. All of it takes spray. We wash the house soft, and the sheds and outbuildings the same way on the same visit, so the whole property matches.
Vinyl siding on the Island and in the Passage is where the salt-fed algae is worst. It grows into the texture and turns the whole north side green. Soft washing kills it and a thorough rinse clears the salt. High pressure on that siding etches it and forces water behind it; we don't do that.
Booking from Barrington & Cape Sable Island
Barrington, the Passage, and the Island are about half an hour from home base, so they book almost like Yarmouth: individually, on most workable days. Woods Harbour and Shag Harbour are grouped with them. No route-day wait is normal here, and we'll say up front if a job needs one.
Quotes are from photos. Text two photos to 782-446-3384 or use the quote form, and you'll usually have a number within 24–48 hours. If you'd rather we come look, that's easy from Yarmouth.
Timing tip: the lobster season runs late November to the end of May. June is when the sheds, wharves, and the house get their turn, and it's when we get the calls. Book in May.
