Every answer below is the same one you'd get on the phone. If we can't back it, it isn't here.
The method
What's the difference between pressure washing and soft washing?
Pressure washing uses force, which is right for concrete and stone. Soft washing uses low pressure and a cleaning solution that kills the algae and mildew growing on the surface, which is right for siding and anything pressure would damage. Most “dirty” houses in Nova Scotia are actually growing something, and killing it is what keeps it gone. High pressure on siding just breaks the growth off at the surface and it comes back within months, often after damaging the paint or forcing water behind the vinyl on the way. Full guide: soft washing vs. pressure washing.
Why does my house get green so fast here?
Humidity, fog, and shade, the Southwest Nova Scotia trifecta. Algae loves damp north-facing walls and anything under trees. You can't change the climate, but a soft wash kills the growth instead of trimming it, which is why it lasts years instead of one season.
How often should I have my house washed?
Most homes here are good on a 2–4 year cycle for siding, depending on shade and exposure. If you're not sure, send a photo and we'll tell you honestly if it's not time yet.
Price and quotes
How much does it cost?
Every house is different, so we quote each job. Quotes are free, fast, and usually done from photos without a site visit. Request a quote and you'll typically have a number within 24–48 hours. No obligation. The price we agree on before work starts is the price you pay.
Do I need to be home?
No. Most jobs only need access to your outdoor tap and the areas being cleaned. Gates unlocked, windows closed, vehicles moved away from the house, and we're set. Plenty of customers come home to a clean house.
Safety
Is the cleaning solution safe? What's in it?
Our soft wash mix is water, a professional detergent, and sodium hypochlorite, the same active ingredient as household bleach, diluted to suit each surface. It's the industry-standard method used on millions of homes. We pre-rinse plants and grass before we start and rinse everything again when we're done. Full details on the what we spray on your house page.
Will it hurt my plants or garden?
Not when it's done properly. We wet down plants, grass, and gardens before, during, and after the wash; dilution and rinsing are the whole game. If you have a prized flower bed or a fish pond, tell us in the quote notes and we'll cover or work around it.
What about pets and kids?
Keep pets and kids inside, or away from the work area, while we're washing and until surfaces have been rinsed and had a chance to dry. After that, business as usual. More on the water & safety page.
Do you use my water?
Yes. We run off your outside tap, and it's factored into how we price. A house wash typically uses about as much water as a few loads of laundry. On a well? Mention it and we'll pace our draw so your pump keeps up.
Scheduling
What time of year can you work?
Roughly April through November, weather depending. Spring books up fast; see season & scheduling for how the season works and how long jobs take.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain doesn't stop a wash. Heavy rain, high wind, or near-freezing temperatures mean we reschedule, at no cost to you, and you go to the front of the line. The full policy is on the weather & rescheduling page.
What areas do you cover?
Yarmouth, Digby, and Shelburne counties, the whole Tri-County. Yarmouth-area jobs book individually; the Digby and Shelburne sides run on route days. Not sure if you're in range? Ask. The worst we'll say is “not yet.” See the service area.
The guarantee
What if I'm not happy with the job?
Then we're not done. Walk the finished job with us; anything that isn't right, we make right. And we're fully insured, so your property is protected the whole time.
Are you insured?
Yes. Titan carries liability insurance on every job, and proof of insurance is available any time you ask. Registered Nova Scotia business 703638833NS0001.
